Selfless Skiing

What a Spring Break service adventure with our friends at NSCD!

Every Coloradan knows Spring Break usually means good snow.  Our Colorado Young Leaders team consisted Max Gottesfeld, Alec Schmergal, Mary Conway, Mark Snyder, Katt Carlton, and Lucas Bergeman.  These students from various schools around Colorado came together & headed to Winter Park, CO for some service & adventure on the slopes! Collectively our Colorado Young Leaders volunteered 119 hours on lessons with people with disabilities, teaching them the basics (and fun) of skiing & snowboarding.

In the evenings, we spent time eating together, playing together, and learning more about leadership in our debriefs.  Our Colorado Young Leaders were both selfless and silly.  Alec won the award for most times down the spiral slide, but gave up every free ski moment to volunteer on a lesson.  Lucas learned to ski to serve on this trip!  Katt spent her 18th birthday on the slopes with us.  Mary fought sickness & fatigue to bring smiles to young participants’ faces.  And, Max fit this week in admidst a busy soccer schedule.  Check out the Fox 31 KVDR news story on our students below.
