Hello everyone!

My name is Enkh. Going into high school, I knew what the plan was: participate in all the clubs and take the hardest classes and get all A’s and be the perfect volunteer, leader, and entrepreneur and then get into Stanford full ride. I am 2 years into high school and although I am still pursuing these goals because of CYL my mindset has greatly shifted. The new goal is to find my passion.

I have had the chance to explore so many areas of interest through volunteering, but now, I am inspired to expand my passion and dedicate my time to one. I am especially inspired by my fellow Youth Advisory Board members and volunteers whose deep sense of purpose into their area of interest and resourcefulness push me to think and act deeper. I went into high school overwhelmed by all these organizations, scholarships, and clubs, but I have stuck with CYL. When I volunteer, I am reminded of why I spend my time doing it, to be an active participant in my community, someone who identifies a problem and does something about it, not just to look good for the colleges. Although we talk about and do things that are very much serious, I always feel hope after I am done serving. I have felt so much guidance and support in the intimidating role of being a teenager. CYL has taught me that it is a sign of strength to ask for help and a trait of leadership to work with other people and communicate with them. From brainstorming to following through on your projects, I now know that I can accomplish any goals just like Lauren, Hayley, Jen, and Flora and all the other CYL staff do everyday. I am incredibly grateful for them because they dedicate themselves to helping us become better people who are more informed, more engaged, and more fulfilled.

Most importantly, CYL has encouraged me to enjoy the process, to celebrate with my peers and be able to stand back and be proud of progress. Before I wrap up, I wanted to share the highlight of my time with Colorado Young Leaders. Last summer I went on a camping trip up to Summit County with other CYLers. Not only did I grow close bonds with the people I met in 24 hours, but I got to learn from their varied life experience. Also, I saw a shooting star that night which I talk about all the time. So, yeah, I am happy to be able to step back and be proud of where I came and celebrate with the people who helped me get there. Although I came into high school with so many ambitious goals and a lot of confusion, I have developed a new desire to find my passion and be dedicated to fulfilling it and a little less confusion.
