DEVELOPING A NEW KIND OF LEADER

Our mission to cultivate a sense of purpose, passion and community in high school leaders across the state of Colorado. We do this through:

  • Leadership Exploration

  • Service Adventures

  • CYL Decalibron Summit Program

A YEAR AT A GLANCE

What does a typical year in CYL look like? While our Staff and Summit Guides guide you through your journey, we recognize that leadership looks different for everyone. There are many ways to get involved in CYL and we empower you to lead in a way that is authentically you. In CYL, the more you are able to reflect on your personal growth and contribute to your community’s growth, the more you will intrinsically gain from your involvement in our program.

For the most up to date calendar, explore our upcoming opportunities here but here’s a bit about what you can expect in CYL.

SUMMER

During the summer, we offer a wide variety of ways for youth to explore their leadership through service. Our summer of service kicks off with weekly service projects and several overnight trips including camp trips and our annual trip to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. This is the perfect time to dive into service with CYL!

FALL

Leadership Exploration Meetings start, focusing on personal growth, community-building and uncovering your own unique leadership style. We encourage students to step out of their comfort zones to try something new – explore a new cause area or meet new friends in CYL. Base Camp, CYL’s annual youth-led conference, brings together teens all over Denver for a place to better understand community issues.

WINTER

Youth learn community asset mapping to better understand issues impacting their communities, and they commit to making an impact on a specific issue. CYLers start to develop a service project and present their ideas for community input during Pitch Night. The highlight of the winter is the adaptive or learn to ski trips!

SPRING

CYL Chapters come together to deepen their understanding of community issues and host their community impact project – hosted annually over Global Youth Service Day weekend. It’s our biggest service event of the year and everything is created by Gen Z for Gen Z. We wrap up the school year with our annual Summit Celebration, acknowledging the accomplishments of Young Leaders in our program.

We guide high school students through a four-stage program named after Colorado’s Decalibron Loop – 4 nearby peaks with elevations over 14,000ft. Each step enables them to find and refine what drives them, offering increasingly real-life opportunities for fun and service.

Their confidence grows, they identify skills and passions, and they directly impact the community.

OUR LEADERSHIP CURRICULUM IS DYNAMIC & ACTION-ORIENTED

Colorado Young Leaders become self-aware, inclusive, empathetic, and civic-minded change makers. They take this new kind of character into the real world and everyone benefits. Youth feel confident in who they are and understand that there is not just one way to lead.

WHY SHOULD YOU JUMP ON BOARD?

Because leaders impact everything.

SCHOOL

CYL Students learn to take accountability for their learning and they empower those around them to engage in their schools… raising the bar for everyone.

NON-PROFITS

Our youth leaders are uniquely qualified to tackle the most pressing problems facing their generation, they help accelerate the social good of the non-profits they serve and lead the way in creating lasting, impactful change.

FUTURES

There is a deep connection between youth service and lifelong service, each step they take today will be the start of a leadership journey that will make them purpose-driven game changers no matter what path they take in the future.

COMMUNITY

With fresh ideas, limitless potential, and a deep social interest, our youth are making their communities and the world heathier, smarter, safer, cleaner, greener, fairer, and kinder. They will lead the way and drive the long-term success of the communities they serve.
