At every Leadership Exploration Meeting, we ask our students a question.  On Sept. 8th, we had the opportunity to listen to Megan & Kelley from Colfax Community Network, and listen to our CYL peers share out on their Summit Projects!  We asked our students, “What is your lesson in leadership?”

“Leadership doesn’t just mean jumping in on an adventure and directing others.  It also means taking a step back and learning about the people around.” (Maddy, ThunderRidge HS)

“I learned that being persistent with your relationships with the CCN kids and not giving up on them makes an impact.” (Ellie, East HS)

“Leaders must be prepared with contingency plans, being consistent is the key to building relationships, and you must preserve individual integrity.” (Kavan, Kent Denver HS)

“I learned that as a leader, things do not always go as planned, and that a backup plan is always needed.” (Adam, ThunderRidge HS)

“I learned the best leaders gain understanding of people’s lives and situations.  They must be open and expecting of everyone.” (Stevie, East HS)

“An important leadership lesson I learned was that help is needed everywhere, not just overseas and far away.  Sometimes you are most needed just next door” (Gretchen, SkyView Academy HS)

“You can make the biggest impact locally!” (Logan, Kent Denver HS)

“I took away how much of an impact we, as youth, can make on the world!  We can also just walk into our backyard and make a huge impact” (Weston, ThunderRidge)

“Even just being there for people is demonstrating leadership.” (Maddy, South HS)

“I learned how much is needed at the Colfax motels, and how much impact one person can have on another.” (Race, STEM HS)

“Leaders are able to adapt to a variety of situations when volunteering, working as a board, or just life in general.” (Will, East HS)

“I learned how poor the living conditions are for people just 15 minutes away from my home, and that I can help make life better for others!” (Conor, Regis HS)
