This year we are honored to present this award to Gaby Alamillo-Sanchez. Gaby is very deserving of this award. She has been involved in CYL for 4 years and is an inaugural member of the Northeast Denver CYL Chapter. She has been involved with or helped implement every single Global Youth Service Day project that CYL has hosted. Gaby has been influential in building her chapter of CYL and providing more opportunities for youth in her community and at her school in Green Valley Ranch. Gaby has been a member of the Youth Advisory Board, this year as our YAB President. This was no easy task as this year had so many challenges. We only had 3 in-person meetings, and Gaby worked so hard to ensure that we prioritized mental health and incorporated time for fun in our meetings! There are so many things that we did in YAB this year that we would not have done without Gaby.
Gaby is passionate about art and social justice. She will be working directly with me over the summer to create and organize community art projects to create a lasting legacy in her community before she heads off to Colorado College
Gaby is a true example of a Kindly Bold leader. She recognizes her leadership strengths of equity and inclusive leadership, and is no longer afraid to speak up for what is important and right. She is a community-minded leader because she advocates for the needs of her community She does so with empathy for others and cares deeply about equity and equality for underrepresented voices.
