White Out the Stigma

19 May 2019 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Awareness event to build a community to speak up and speak out for those impacted by mental illness and suicide

The event is aimed to target the stigma perpetuated around mental health. We want to replace the ideas that mental illness is something that people have to suffer alone by building a community that can speak up and speak out for those impacted by mental illness and suicide. We are doing this by creating a safe and welcoming place where people from the Denver community can unite in support of this cause.

Denver Area youth will be gathering to “white out” the stigma surrounding teen mental illness. By bringing together impactful speakers and local nonprofits focused on suicide prevention students hope to transform the dialog and change perceptions in order to reduce the stigma of teen mental health.

A note from the students:

Suicide has been a very prevalent issue throughout Colorado high schools recently. We are all students that have been impacted by the issue of teen suicide. Spreading awareness and having a sense of unity throughout the community will hopefully leave a lasting impact. There is also so much stigma revolved around this topic. The more our community bring this topic out of the darkness, the more likely we are to see significant change in our high schools. Our goal is to reach out to all and show that teens are not alone when dealing with this hardship and have a supportive community.
