Young Leaders will participate in a week-long camp to learn about Denver’s food cycle. Starting with community gardens and following Denver’s food cycle. This week-long camp will address the following issues within food justice: security, distribution, access, local and sustainable foods. Students will serve with and learn from at least 5 different local nonprofit organizations working in addressing food justice concerns. Lunch will be provided from local restaurants. This is a great introduction to food justice for Young Leaders who are exploring their CYL causes, to students who have great experience in areas of food justice. Commitment is for the full 5 days and will take place in different neighborhoods surrounding Denver so that you are able to fully immerse yourself in the issues revolving food justice.
Each day will be roughly 4-5 hours, start and end time will fluctuate based on day’s schedule.
Causes: food justice including access to food, food policy, food deserts, sustainability, gentrification, climate, urban gardening, equal access to healthy foods, etc.
Camp fees: fees are $50 for the entire week and cover transportation, lunches each day and program materials. If you are experiencing financial difficulty, please contact Lauren.
Questions? Are you a nonprofit interested in participating? Are you a local food business interested in providing meals for students? Contact Lauren.
