What is the Decalibron Loop?
Physically, it is a mountain loop in Fairplay consisting of Mt. Democrat, Mt. Cameron, Mt. Lincoln and Mt. Bross – all are 14,000+ feet. YES! You can do all 4 in one day! But you don’t have to. We encourage you to challenge yourself, while playing it safe. This year, we are also adding another option to be more inclusive of all levels of hikers, adding a hike around Kite Lake (near the 14ers trailhead) and guided outdoor yoga. The Kite Lake hike is great for beginners who still want to join in on the CYL experience of camping and hiking. Metaphorically, the Decalibron Loop is a journey of 4 different summits our CYL youth participate in throughout their time in our program to become community-minded, socially-conscious, service-oriented leaders! You can learn more about that here.
Double your fun and join us for a campout the night before the hike, on September 14th, at the Kite Lake campground. Dinner and s’mores provided and meet new friends! CYL Staff and hike leaders all have Wilderness First Aid certifications. CYL Staff will be leading groups in all levels of hiking – hike 1, 2, 3 or all 4 of the 14ers! Look at the hike overview here.
Hike starts at 7AM on Sunday, September 15th. Breakfast provided for all hikers. Breakfast starts at 6:30AM! If you are planning on camping, please join us starting at 4pm on Saturday, September 14th.
*This year’s hike is dedicated to Lauren Guthrie – a Colorado Young Leader whose legacy of “kindly bold” leadership touched so many in our community. A special community circle and intention setting event will take place before the hike begins.
