Base Camp

2 Feb 2019 @ 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Created by CYL’s Youth Advisory Board (YAB), this is a service and leadership day created by teens, for teens. This year’s theme, Base Camp: CommUnity is focused on building community and uniting teens who want to change the world.

What to expect: meet other high school students who are passionate about changing the world, learning about ways to make a difference in your community, and have fun! This is FREE for students due to generous donations from our sponsor, Dietmeier Orthodontics, and local businesses who provide meals and content to high school students. We want you to leave Base Camp with friends from other high schools, more united to your community, inspired to make a difference and equipped with the tools and knowledge to do something about issues that make you feel something.

Breakout of day:

9:30AM – gather at Sturm Hall at University of Denver campus

10AM – guest speakers to inspire Young Leaders including: Nicole Mahobian, Founder of Colorado Young Leaders; Carletta Stewart, Founder of The Lady Trailblazer; Dave Ventimiglia, Executive Director of The Tipi Raisers

10:45AM – breakout sessions based on different passion areas: Rainbow Alley – LGBTQ+ rights, The Tipi Raisers – rights of indigenous peoples on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado – environmental stewardship. You will get the chance to learn more about two passion areas as well as how to get involved in their work.

1PM – Group activities and large scale community service project to support Metro Caring, a nonprofit in Denver working to address food security issues.

3:30PM – Goodbye! See you next time!
