About the Project Red Rocks Park, known for its remarkable landscape of red sandstone outcroppings, is a true Colorado landmark. It’s a world-famous concert venue, and home to awe-inspiring hiking and biking trails perfect for exploring the geology, forests, wildflowers and wildlife, with views of Denver and beyond. One of the park’s trails – the Trading Post Trail and where this project is situated – is a 1.5-mile loop that can be accessed via an easy hike.
Due to the popularity of Red Rocks, hiking traffic is heavy throughout the year. This means damage to the park’s trails can happen fast and become widespread. Volunteers will assist the park by bringing the Trading Post Trail to safe, sustainable conditions so it can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.
What will I be doing? Volunteers will perform much-needed maintenance and rehabilitation on a 2,000-foot section of the Trading Post Trail. Work will include installing timber steps and drainage structures, spreading crusher fine material and removing old concrete sections of trail, among other moderate tasks. This is a great opportunity for new volunteers and those wanting to learn more about trail restoration in a beautiful setting. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided to ensure a productive day.
You will be outside all day! Make sure to bring sunscreen, water, snacks, sunglasses and a hat. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
